My Story

Showreel

Tirzah’s journey through her diagnosis of Stage 2 Breast Cancer and her advocacy efforts exemplify courage, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

At the age of 36, Tirzah was diagnosed with Estrogen-positive, Progesterone low-positive, HER2-negative invasive carcinoma. Living in Saskatoon with her husband, Ricky Forbes, and their two children, Vayda and Mason—then in Grade 12 and Grade 6—she faced her diagnosis head-on, choosing to become an advocate for young women’s health. Her mission: to emphasize the importance of early detection, self-advocacy, and creating a supportive community for those affected by breast cancer.

Through raw and heartfelt storytelling on platforms like TikTok, Tirzah’s message resonated with millions worldwide. By sharing her journey openly, she inspired and empowered other women navigating similar challenges, fostering a sense of hope and solidarity.

Her advocacy extended to public speaking at significant events, including serving as the "Hope Speaker" for the CIBC Run for the Cure. Her compelling story helped raise vital funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, supporting research and life-changing programs. Tirzah’s reach grew further through appearances on platforms such as C95 FM’s Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research and Natalie Jill’s podcast Midlife Conversations, where she shared her message of hope, resilience, and the critical importance of early detection.

Locally, Tirzah played an active role in fundraising events like the Choc’ La Cure Fashion Show in Saskatoon, where she modeled and helped raise funds for breast cancer research. Her commitment to grassroots advocacy connected her deeply with her community, encouraging others to join the fight against breast cancer.

In 2021, Tirzah turned her passion for photography into a business, launching Tirzah May Photography. Following her diagnosis, she merged her creativity with her advocacy by organizing impactful Breast Cancer Awareness photoshoots. In 2023, she partnered with Wigs.com to feature the stories of eight survivors from Saskatchewan. The following year, this passion project expanded to include 25 survivors, with Tirzah collaborating with Saskatoon’s C95 radio station to announce their 25th annual breast cancer research fundraiser.

Tirzah is profoundly grateful that her photography allows her to create meaningful work that spreads awareness and empowers others. Her journey reminds us all of the power of vulnerability, community, and determination in creating positive change.

Through her advocacy, storytelling, and creative pursuits, Tirzah has become a beacon of hope for those impacted by breast cancer. Her efforts inspire others to approach life’s challenges with strength, compassion, and a determination to make a difference.
